Welcome

Those who know me are aware that the main focus of my practice has always been minimally invasive or laparoscopic surgery.  The majority of my caseload has been laparoscopic spine access, Nissen fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux, hernia repair, and, of course laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal).  About six years ago I began performing laparoscopic weight loss surgery.  The procedures I perform most commonly are Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and vertical sleeve gastrectomy. In the last few years I have performed very few LAP-BAND procedures due to poor weight loss and high long term failure rates being reported by surgeons around the world. I also do revisional surgery. I have now performed more than 500 weight loss operations.

We often receive inquiries from patients who want to have weight loss surgery, but don't have insurance coverage. We offer package pricing for adjustable gastric band (LAP-BAND), laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. This price includes the hospital, anesthesia, surgery, as well as 2 years of follow-up, including band adjustments (fills). For patients unable to bring a support person with them, we can also provide an even more comprehensive package which will include everything from airport pickup, transportation to and from the doctor's office and hospital, and post-op meals. Please email us or call the office for further details.

I now do endoscopic pouch reductions using the StomaphyX device. This innovative procedure offers a minimally invasive option to gastric bypass patients who have not reached their weight loss goals or have begun to regain weight after previously successful gastric bypass surgery. Most insurance companies will not pay for StomaphyX. We are offering the procedure for a total cost of $5000. I also do another endoscopic procedure for stoma reduction called injection sclerotherapy. This may be covered by your insurance company.

There are numerous web-sites with detailed information about bariatric surgery.  It won't take long for you to find them.  Obesityhelp.com is a popular site and they have plenty of links to help you get going. Inamed Corporation (formally Bioenterics ) manufactures the LAP-BAND.  Their Patient Information Page can be accessed here .  If you are interested in seeing me about having this type of surgery, download this Patient Information Packet and complete the questionnaire. Attend one of my information sessions. Do the homework and bring the completed questionnaire to your appointment.

News: With a large number of people undergoing LapBand placement, there is also a significant number of patients (up to 25%) who have not been successful in losing weight with the Band. I have now begun performing laparoscopic Removal of the LapBand, with conversion to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on these patients. For further information on this procedure, email me or contact the office.
